Today, we explored the world of shapes using our geoboards. We discussed the characteristics of different 2D shapes and practiced all the vocabulary in French. When our shape making came to an end, we got a little creative with the elastics and made all sorts of silly forms. Our little muscles were working hard to stretch those elastics in every possible way!

Multisensory techniques are frequently used for children with learning difficulties but are also an excellent way to reach every type of learner. The techniques, strategies, and activities used stimulate learning by engaging students on multiple levels and encouraging students to use some or all their senses. This is what we did with our pipecleaner sounds. In addition, it is quite fun!
Some of the sewing that has gone on in class! Above is a bird in progress and below is, let's call it, sewing exploration! The kids used real sewing needles that were a little larger in size than the standard. They mostly needed help with the knot in the thread but otherwise were quite good at threading! A few kids discovered that they really enjoyed sewing. Some have yet to try but are highly encouraged to do so, who knows what interests and passions may emerge from exploring new and fun things! Once we all have a go, we could make a little pillow or something simple! A great skill to learn, everyone will have to hem some pants or patch something in their lifetime, I'm sure!
Last week, Mme Sarah came in to teach the class about string games. They had so much fun and were so keen to learn and listen to string stories that Mme Sarah is going to visit a second time! Here are a few photos of last weeks string game class. Stay tuned for photos from this weeks class!
During our unit exploration today, we talked about food choices. Some healthy and some...well, not so healthy. After our short discussion, it was time for an imaginary grocery store visit. We planned to fill two grocery carts, one with healthy food choices and one with junky food choices. The students cut out different images of food that they would later glue onto their grocery cart. They worked really hard to cut out the food as they followed the lines...a little fine motor practice ;) Check back soon to see our finished products! Counting the stickers and placing the corresponding number in the right spot! Working on counting, number recognition and fine motor skills. Those clothes pins are tricky to open ;)
